Digital Media: The Age of Social Media
The advancement of digital media has brought about many new ways to communicate and spread information. The question is: is this information reliable? Another question that arises where social media is concerned is if it is ethical. In simple terms, ethics is often defined as the "right thing to do". It is a concept in which morals weigh heavily when determining if something is ethical or not.
With social media comes an all to efficient way to spread information. In the world of digital media, everyone feels as if they are a journalist. Often times, people will share their own perspective on a situation as if it is hard fact. This leads to the spread of misinformation or biased outlooks on situations. Not only should people be concerned about the ethical validity of spreading misinformation, even if by accident, they should also be conscious of what they share in regard to other people. It is easy to post a photo with a friend and tag the location on any social platform. However, if the friend doesn't want their location shared, that could go against ethics and morals.
